AUGUST 2025 UPDATE ON MARGARITAVILLE RV DEVELOPMENT |
In a recent survey conducted by HOBOs, we have 96 % of our membership that participated in our survey vote against this development. Our HOBO board voted 8 out of 10 board members against this development. We can still stop this development if we organize and get involved with the Tallapoosa County Commission.
We are asking every member of HOBOs to discuss this with your friends and neighbors. Ask them to join the HOBOs to fight this development. We ask you to contact your Tallapoosa County Commissioner via email, phone or letter and voice your opposition to this development. I intend to write the County Commissioners a letter stating our opposition to this development. Please get involved and active. Get on social media and voice your opposition. Thank you.

Dave Maddox, President of the Sandy Creek HOA
shared this update from Shane West.
A few of the Sandy Creek HOA board members attended the last Tallapoosa County Commissioners meeting with the intent of letting them know that their project was no longer a secret and to make them aware of our opposition to this massive motorhome park. Additionally, we needed to clear up some misconceptions that were harbored by a couple of the commissioners regarding our failed first attempt at becoming a part of Dadeville through annexation.
I was honored to be asked to represent our group at this meeting. I explained to the commissioners our reason to seek annexation. Simply put, we wish to stop all commercial and high density housing projects in Sandy Creek. I expressed our concerns that without annexation and subsequent zoning, we had no avenue of legal opposition to uncontrolled growth. I used the example of Lake Lanier as what we do not want to become, but will inevitably become without annexation and zoning. I asked that they work together with us, the city, and our state representatives to create a path that would allow the county to continue to prosper from rental property even if it is incorporated into Dadeville. I received a positive response from John McKelvy. This is important as he was a major factor in killing annexation last time around.
I also briefly discussed the project at the end of Young's Ferry road. This was intended to gather information from them about the project and to officially state our opposition. I informed them of our contact with associations around Lake Lanier and the overwhelming negative reviews received from them regarding the "Margaritaville" located on Lake Lanier. Very little information about the project was obtained from this meeting.
The following is what we know about the proposed Margaritaville at the end of Young's Ferry Road.
1. The county has created an "Economic Development District" for the 59 acres purchased for the project.
2. There is no plan for a meeting with the residents of Tallapoosa County to discuss the project.
3. This is not a "done deal" and in private I was told that it was more like 50-50 and it would likely be years before it would happen. I cannot verify that this is factual and it may be a ploy to get us out of the way.
4. The 59 acres were purchased on March 29, 2022 for 6 million dollars and is held by T Bar C, LLC and Cheatham Farms LLC.
5. No studies have been done by the county regarding water supply, sewage, traffic, safety, road capacity, impact on the lake communities surrounding the park, etc.
We will have representatives from our association at all upcoming meetings of the county commission. At some point in the near future we will need our members to show up to a meeting in enough numbers to have an impact.
